The Medicine of Coming Home: Creating Anchor Points That Return You to Yourself

Hello, Beautiful and Magical Soul,

Have you ever felt like there are moments when you can feel that "I am just… off."?

Not necessarily anything dramatic.

Maybe you feel scattered, disconnected, overstimulated, tired, maybe a little restless, maybe you have been traveling, moving through a particularly full season, or simply spending too much time outside of my own rhythm.

And when that happens, I don’t believe you need to fix yourself. When I feel like that I always remind myself, "I need to come home."

Over the years, I have learned that one of the most powerful ways I can return to myself is through what I call anchor points. Anchor points are the little things you intentionally weave into your day or your week that help you remember yourself.

They are the rituals, practices, places, people, movements, sounds, sensations, and moments that bring you back into your body and back into relationship with yourself.

They are little doorways home. And the beautiful thing is that your anchor points don’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Your medicine is your medicine.

What brings you back to yourself?

I think sometimes we make coming back to ourselves much more complicated than it needs to be.

We think we need another protocol, another morning routine, another journal, another supplement, another box to check, or another thing to accomplish.

But sometimes your body already knows.

You just have to listen.

For me, an anchor point might be sitting outside in the morning sun with my bare feet on the earth. It might be making my womb ceremonial cacao. It might be putting on a vinyl record and letting music move through the house. It might be meditation. Journaling. Moving my body. Being in my garden. Lighting incense. Sitting in stillness.

Taking a walk.

Sometimes it is something incredibly simple and that simple thing changes everything.

The point isn’t the ritual itself.

The point is what it returns you to.

Create your own anchor map

One of the things I encourage you to do is begin noticing what you actually need in different moments. Because you may not need the same thing every day.

Maybe you need joy.

Maybe you need peace.

Maybe you need energy.

Maybe you need calm.

Maybe you need connection.

Maybe you need to get back into your body.

So instead of creating one rigid routine that you are supposed to follow perfectly, begin creating your own little menu of anchor points.

Ask yourself:

What brings me joy?

What makes me feel playful, expressive, alive, light?

What brings me peace?

What quiets the noise and allows me to exhale?

What gives me energy?

What wakes something up inside of me?

What creates calm?

What helps my nervous system soften and my body feel safe enough to be present?

What reconnects me to myself?

What reminds me of who I am underneath all of the roles, responsibilities, expectations, and noise?

What drops me into my body?

What helps me stop living from the neck up and actually feel myself here?

And then begin to notice.

Your body will tell you.

Anchor points are not another thing to perform

This is important.

I don’t want you turning your anchor points into another list of things you “should” be doing.

That defeats the entire purpose.

This isn’t about creating the perfect morning routine or checking twelve boxes before 8 a.m.

It is about relationship.

It is about knowing yourself well enough that when you notice yourself drifting away from yourself, you have pathways back.

Maybe your anchor point today is movement.

Tomorrow it might be stillness.

Maybe one day you need solitude.

Another day you need music and laughter and connection.

There is no failure in needing something different.

There is wisdom in noticing.

Coming home is a practice

I think this is one of the deepest pieces of embodiment.

Coming home to yourself isn’t something you do once.

It is something you practice.

Again.

And again.

And again.

You notice you’ve left yourself.

You pause.

You listen.

You choose something that reconnects you.

And slowly, you become more familiar with your own pathways home.

You begin to know:

“When I feel like this, I need this.”

“When I am disconnected, this helps me return.”

“When I am overwhelmed, my body is asking for this.”

“When I feel flat, I know what brings my spark back.”

That is self-trust.

That is embodiment.

That is sovereignty.

Not because you never get off track.

But because you know how to return.

Your body knows the way home

So today, I want you to think about your own anchor points.

Not what someone on the internet says you need.

Not what the latest wellness trend tells you to do.

What actually works for you?

What makes you feel like yourself?

What makes your shoulders drop?

What makes you breathe deeper?

What makes you laugh?

What makes you feel grounded?

What makes you feel connected?

What makes you feel alive?

What helps you hear your own voice again?

Write them down.

Create your little "medicine cabinet" of rituals and experiences.

Keep them somewhere you can return to when you need them.

Because there will be days when life pulls you outward.

There will be seasons when your rhythm gets disrupted.

There will be moments when you feel disconnected from yourself.

And when that happens, you don’t have to judge it.

You don’t have to fix it.

You don’t have to become someone new.

You can simply begin making your way home.

One breath, one ritual, one song, one walk, one moment in nature, one choice to listen, one deep return to the body, and those moments of sacred presence.

You are not lost.

Sometimes you simply need a doorway back to yourself.

And you can create those doorways everywhere.

If this is something you’re feeling into right now, I went much deeper into this in my latest podcast episode, The Medicine of Coming Home: Creating Anchor Points That Return You to Yourself.

In the episode, I share more about how I use anchor points in my own life, why I think they are such a powerful way to reconnect with yourself, and how you can begin creating your own.

As always, take what resonates and leave the rest. The point of this beautiful life is to enjoy it......try to spend more time in presence with self and actually living your life :) Letting of of perfection, worrying over how others view you, and outsourcing your power. Hugs, Nichol
